THE SMOKEY'S DOGGIE CAFE Story
Passion Meets Purpose
For over 30 years, Debra has dedicated her life to rescuing, caring for, and advocating for animals. Her love for animals started at a young age—at just 10 years old, she made her first rescue, saving two abandoned kittens found in her yard. Their mother was nowhere to be found, so she took it upon herself to bottle-feed them every two hours until they were strong enough to thrive. This experience ignited a lifelong commitment to helping animals in need.
While Debra spent 25 years in the music industry while working in IT, her passion for animals never faded. Even with a successful career in entertainment, she always found ways to foster, rescue, and support animals in need. In 2018, she decided to step away from the music industry and transition into holistic healing, a field that fascinated her—especially when it came to the natural benefits of CBD.
She opened Monmouth County’s #1 CBD store, with a strong focus on wellness for both humans and pets. The store included a special section for animal wellness, offering high-quality CBD products to help pets with anxiety, joint pain, and overall well-being.
However, as the CBD market evolved, so did its challenges. When dispensaries began opening and smaller smoke shops flooded the market with low-quality products, Debra couldn’t continue in an industry that prioritized profits over purity and quality.
Rather than compromising her values, she decided to follow her true passion: animals. With Keyport being a true dog-friendly town, she envisioned something unique—a place where pet owners and their furry companions could dine, shop, and socialize together in a welcoming, pet-friendly space. And so, Smokey’s Doggy Café was born!
Why Smokey’s?
The café is named after Smokey, one of Debra’s beloved rescues who embodied everything she wanted the café to represent—loyalty, love, and a little bit of mischief! She wanted to create a community space where dogs are not just welcome—they’re celebrated.
At Smokey’s Doggy Café, it’s more than just a meal or a treat—it’s about creating memorable experiences for pets and their owners. Whether you’re enjoying a bite to eat from a local restaurant, watching your pup play in the walled-in agility yard, or treating them to a birthday cake made with human grade, organic, non-GMO ingredients, Smokey’s is a haven for pet lovers.

The Boss - Havapoo
Smokey came to me via two wonderful women who saved him from an abusive situation at 7.5 months old. He had never been outside and was terrified of everything, so to socialize him I started bringing him to work with me and using CBD to help with his anxiety. Within months, he was the king of the store. He likes other dogs but really loves snuggling with people and belly rubs. He is an expert fetch player and will play for hours with whomever will throw the ball for him.
Finn
The Activities Director - Westiepoo
Finn is the newest addition to the Smokey's Family and was a stray who was picked up in New Mexico in July 2024 at 5 months old. Finn loves people, but really loves to play with all the dogs who visit Smokey's. His Hobbies are playing with toys, chewing Yak Cheese Sticks, playing with all his dog friend and wrestling with his sister Luna.
Luna
Treat & Toy Tester - Blue Merle Golden Doodle
Luna was an owner surrender at 9 weeks old and joined the Family in June 2022. She is smart, funny and loves attention. During her puppy years, she tore through approximately 60 toys! She is what we call a "Squeeker Killer", so the quest for a toy Luna couldn't destroy was on. Luna loves people and other dogs and TREATS! She is very food motivated, but picky, so she tests our treats to make sure they are the right quality for Smokey's. Luna's hobbies are barking, eating treats and Yak cheese sticks, playing with her brother Finn and her favorite toy the Fluff & Tuff Koi Fish.
